Robert Burns, a native of Oak Park, Illinois, Burns entered Oberlin College in 1946 as a recipient of the Glen Gray Scholarship, a four-year full tuition award. Burns earned four letters as a member of the football team and served as team captain his senior year. A three-sport athlete, he also earned three letters each in basketball and baseball at Oberlin College. A chemistry major, Burns graduated from Oberlin in 1950. He married Annabelle Flitcraft (Class of '49) in June of 1950. He was employed by the Union Oil Company of California for seven years, Gulf Oil for 22 years, Checkon Auto Parts for four years, and the Circle K. Corporation for 10 years, primarily in management positions. Burns is currently retired and living in Paradise Valley, Arizona.
