Robert Addison was a freshman at Mount Union College when Pearl Harbor was bombed on his 19th birthday. He joined the US Marine Corps in '42 and served two years with "Carlson's Raiders" in the South Pacific before being transferred to the V-12 program. In September of 1944, Addison enrolled at Denison University and played in four football games before being transferred to Oberlin where he played in three games that season. Addison remained at Oberlin after being released to inactive duty in February of '46. By the time of his graduation, Addison had won 12 varsity letters and played in 182 varsity contests. He was an All Ohio end in football for four years, captain of the basketball team as a senior, and leading hitter in baseball as a sophomore. Addison was recalled to military service during the Korean War (1950-51), serving as a player-coach of the basketball and baseball teams at the Marine base in Portsmouth, Virginia. He is professor of physical education at Adirondack Community College in Glen Falls, NY where he has coached at State Teachers College in Patterson, NJ, Bates College, and Duane College, and has been executive director of the Wilkes-Barre Branch YMCA in Shavertown, PA.
