Richard A. Miller, Class of 1952, earned three varsity letters in soccer and two in lacrosse while at Oberlin College. As captain of the 1951 undefeated and untied soccer team, he was honored as a first-team All-American as a goalkeeper. The multi-talented Miller also performed in the Glee Club, serving as president his senior year. A mathematics major at Oberlin, Miller earned master’s and doctorate degrees in economics from Yale University. He has carved his professional career over four decades as a full professor of economics at Wesleyan University. Miller also has served as a visiting professor at several institutions throughout his tenure.

Miller has been the recipient of dozens of grants and fellowships over his academic career, including a National Science Foundation grant and a Fulbright Fellowship. His dedication to civic responsibility led to his membership in the Connecticut Council for the Advancement of Economic Education from 1962 to 1967 and a trustee position from 1982 to 1984. The Antitrust Division of the United States Department of Justice benefited from Miller’s services as a consultant from 1974 until 1980. He also has been active in the American Economic Association and the Southern Economic Association, which promote economic research and the historical and statistical study of the actual conditions of industrial life. Miller currently acts as a reviewer for Choice Magazine and American Reference Books Annual.
