Paul E. Landis played varsity football, basketball, baseball, and tennis at Oberlin. From 1925 to 1942 he coached basketball and track, was assistant coach in football, and served as director of intramurals at Bowling Green State University. Landis went on to serve 16 years as director of health, physical education, recreation and safety for the State of Ohio Department of Education. In 1969 Landis retired from his post as commissioner of the Ohio High School Athletic Association, a position he assumed in 1964 after seven years as assistant commissioner. During World War II, Landis was director of the Ohio Physical Fitness Program.
