A First-Team NCAA All-American on the soccer pitch, Norm Thoms was an elite centerback for the Yeomen during the 1950s. Thoms, a four-year letterman, played a vital role in helping Oberlin go unbeaten for 42 straight matches between 1950 and 1955. He also earned four letters in tennis during his college career.
Upon graduation from Oberlin, Thoms attended medical school at the University of Michigan. A longtime member of the American Medical Association (AMA), Thoms was honored by the Stormont-Vail Health Center in Topeka, Kansas, with the Bal Jeffrey Award for distinguished service to the community.
