Joseph Molder earned three varsity letters in both soccer and track and received freshman numerals as a member of the basketball, soccer, tennis and track teams.

He was captain and MVP of the soccer team his senior year, when he led Oberlin to a 9-0-1 record as the Yeomen outscored opponents 41-5. He was named All-Midwest and first-team All-American at center halfback. Molder was also named All-Midwest the previous year, when the Yeomen rolled to a perfect 8-0 mark. During his three seasons as member of the team, the Yeomen were 24-1-2 and outscored opponents 131-24.

In the spring of his senior year, Molder was named the track team's top middle distance runner. After leaving Oberlin, he spent three seasons playing semi-professional soccer in New York and Washington.

A sociology major at Oberlin, Molder went on to earn an MBA from Columbia in 1958. From 1957 to 1969 he was head coach of the soccer team at Columbia, taking the program from club to varsity status and eventually to full membership in the Ivy League. During his final season as head coach, the Columbia soccer team was ranked among the top 25 teams in the nation.

From 1959 to 1970 Molder worked in admissions and then as a pre-med/pre-law advisor at Columbia. He spent one year as the assistant headmaster at Westover School. In 1971 he was named headmaster, a position he held until 1996.

Molder and his wife, Elizabeth '55, live in Middlebury, Connecticut, and have three children, Steven, David and Marjorie.
