John Richard LeFevre graduated from Oberlin College in 1942 with an A.B. in Health and Physical Education. In addition, he earned an M.A. and Ed.D. TC from Columbia University. During his years at Oberlin, he earned nine varsity letters, three each in football, basketball, and tennis, in a time when freshman were not eligible to participate. The tennis team compiled an impressive 23-1 record during LeFevre's three years as a player, placing second in the conferece twice and third once. LeFevre served as captain of the 1942 tennis squad which achieved a perfect 8-0 record for the second consecutive season. In addition to athletics, LeFevre was involved with the Freshman Men's Committee, was President of the Delta Lodge during the year 1941-42, and President of the Varsity "O" Club in the same year. He also earned the distinction of Glen Gray Scholar of the Class of 1942. LeFevre served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from June 1942 until February 1947, was the Tennis Professional at Summers Lake Geneva, Assistant Professor at the George Peabody College for teachers, and Director of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics for the Arlington Public Schools, in Arlington, VA. From 1955 until 1983, LeFevre held the positions of Associate Professor and Professor at Southern Illinois University, in Carbondale, Illinois, where he continues to serve as the Men's Tennis Coach.
