George K. "Dutch" Mytinger

G. Kenneth "Dutch" Mytinger graduated from Oberlin College in 1938 with a degree in physical education. During his years at Oberlin, he earned three letters in baseball, two in basketball, and one in football. He led the basketball team in scoring during his junior year. He was captain of the Oberlin College baseball team that won the 1938 Ohio Athletic Conference championship. A center fielder and pitcher, Mytinger played every inning of every game for three seasons and had a .315 career batting average. He wore jersey number 10 and played right guard for the 1937 Oberlin basketball team. He led the Yeomen in scoring that season and played in every game. Mytinger was an assistant football and basketball coach in the Ambridge, Pennsylvania, school system from 1939 to 1942. He served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1946. Discharged from the Navy, Mytinger spent the next 12 years as the manager of a heating and sheet-metal division of a family-owned hardware store. In 1958, he returned to the Ambridge school system and taught algebra, health, and physical education. He also coached junior high boys' basketball and senior high girls' basketball. From 1955 to 1965, Mytinger was a recruiter for the University of Pittsburgh football team. Mytinger retired from teaching in 1979 and returned to Oberlin in 1980. He has spent the past 12 years working as a volunteer teacher of algebra for the G.E.D. students at the Lorain County Joint Vocational School. A charter member of the Heisman Club, Mytinger received an award in 1982 for his contributions to the club and to Oberlin College.
