Fred Minnear

Fred Minnear earned 12 varsity letters, including four in football and baseball, three in hockey, and 1 in track. In football, he made the All-Ohio Athletic Conference team in both his junior and senior years and was the only player to be named to both the offensive and defensive units (center and linebacker). Minnear received the Mike Gregory Memorial Award, an honor annually bestowed upon the best lineman in the conference. In ice-hockey he was a two-year Midwest selection as a defenseman. On the diamond Minnear lead the OAC in batting (.484) and was named to the All-OAC first team as a catcher. His .484 average is the highest in OC baseball history. After graduating from Oberlin, Minnear had tryouts with the Washington Redskins and the New England Patriots of the National Football League. He then went on to earn the Ph.D. in anatomy at the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center. Minnear is currently Assistant Professor of Physiology and Anatomy at Albany (New York) Medical College.
