Daniel Kinsey graduated from the University of Illinois in 1926. As an undergraduate student, he was an understudy to the legendary "Red" Grange on the Illinois football team. Participating in the 1924 Olympic Games, Kinsey won a gold medal in the 100-meter high hurdles. At Oberlin he taught physical education, served as intramural director, coached cross country, track and field, swimming, wrestling, and fencing. Kinsey was secretary of the YMCA from 1934-38, chairman of the town recreation committee, a Shansi trustee, and active in many student groups on campus. His teams won 18 Ohio Conference championship titles. Kinsey left Oberlin in 1959 to chair the HPER Department at Earlham College.
