Cris Smith, a member of the Oberlin Class of 1968, he earned eight varsity letters at Oberlin, including four in football (1964-67) and four in lacrosse (1965-68). He was captain of the volleyball team that competed in the 1968 Intercollegiate Tournament at The Ohio State University. While a member of the Oberlin football team, Smith was named first-team all-conference in 1967. He set the school record for receptions in a season as well as yards receiving in a season. In addition, Smith tied the conference record for receptions and earned the Frost House Most Valuable Player Award for Offense during his junior and senior seasons. In 1968 he was a member of the Atlantic Coast Football League Southern Division Championship Team. As a lacrosse athlete, Smith was the team's leading scorer in his final two seasons and was named to the all-conference team during his senior campaign. After receiving his B. A. in economics, Smith earned his J.D. in law from Catholic University in 1977. He worked as a clerk typist for the United States Army for two years, as a legislative assistant for Senator Harrison Williams for three years, and as an analyst for the U.S. General Accounting office for five years. He served as a lawyer for the U.S. Department of Energy for 15 years and was a member of the Senior Counsel. Smith has been a real estate investor and property manager since 1973. Smith has earned many awards from the Department of Energy, including one for Career Appreciation. He was the co-founder of the Forrestal Occupational Health Organization, a 1,000-member health facility at the U.S. Department of Health. He also was a charter member of the organizations board of directors from 1985-1991. Smith has served as a Little League baseball coach for two years. He began his first season as high school girls' lacrosse coach this year. Cris and his wife, Gail, reside in Washington, D.C., with their two children, Sara and Jared.
