Carla White, a member of the Class of '79, left Oberlin College with a bachelor arts in art history. During her time at Oberlin, she competed in cross country and track for four years, earning six varsity letters. She placed 11th at the AAU Ohio State Cross Country Championships in 1975 and qualified for the Midwest Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) regional championships in 1978. During her senior year, White was captain of the cross country team and named the team's most valuable player. At the 1978 Bonne Bell 10K, She finished 13th out of 983 runners with a time of 38:43. One of the finest distance runners ever to compete for the Oberlin College women's track team, White still holds the school record in the 1500 meters. She set the current mark in 1979 with a time of 4:52.3. During her final year at Oberlin, White also set the school record in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:48.1, a mark that stood until 1985. She was captain of the track team in 1978 and 1979. After leaving Oberlin, White was the head cross country coach at Wheaton College in 1980. She worked several years for Nike Inc. as a project manager developing materials for athletic footwear. White left Nike to pursue her interests in the arts and in architecture. She was an art dealer and managed an architectural firm, and was a projects manager for a real estate development company.
