ALBERT B. FISHER, JR., CLASS OF 1938 earned three varsity letters as a member of the swimming and diving team and was elected captain his senior year. He competed in the 50-yard, 100-yard, and 150-yard backstroke events, as well as the 50-yard backstroke leg of the medley relay and set the school record in all three individual events. He graduated from Oberlin with a bachelor’s in economics then attended The Ohio State University, where he earned an MBA in 1940 and a PhD in 1948. During World War II, Fisher served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed on the U.S.S. Heywood in the South and Central Pacific. After a 45-year hiatus from swimming, he became a member of the United States Masters Swimming organization. From 1985-2003 (age 69-87) Fisher competed in 100 U.S. Masters sanctioned meets in 35 states, including 31 national championship meets. In 2002, he was ranked in the top 10 in the U.S. in the 85-89 age group in five different events (backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, butterfly, and individual medley).
