Club Soccer
This Saturday, Club Soccer travelled to Denison. We lost by a large margin, but our first-year striker Ambia Elias knocked in two goals. We were extremely excited and proud about her performance as well as the performance of the rest of the team, and went away quite happy with the result.
Dressage
The dressage team continued to practice hard this week to prepare for their next show. Coach Michelle has the team practicing without stirrups for "No stirrup November" to work on their leg position and muscle development. Pictured is part of the team last weekend at Otterbein!
Tumbling:
This week in tumbling we had two really great sessions on Wednesday and yesterday. With the upcoming show, people are really putting in the time to work on their performances. People worked on everything from walk-overs, to front tuck with a half twist, to simpler moves like cartwheels. We also had people working on synchronizing their moves for the performance, such as a running front tuck. I did not get a photo of the duo, but I do have one of one of the people working on that (see attached). There's so much overlap and inter-disciplinary work between the sub-sets of OCircus!, we have tumblers working on partner Acro (see attached) and Acro people working on tumbling. There was a lot of positive energy at the Saturday session; everyone encouraged each other, helped them come up with new sequences for their performance, and filmed each other so that we could see what needs improvement.
Table Tennis:
The table tennis club had our fall tournament yesterday in Columbus!
BJJ:
This week at BJJ we introduced and worked on a variety of chokeholds: collar choke, underarm collar choke, x choke, front naked, and side control choke. We also did some light rolling.
Flying Horsecows:
This weekend, the Flying Horsecows competed in the 11th annual Force Freedom, Oberlin's own home tournament. They split into an A team and a B team and competed separately for Saturday's pool play. The A cows lost two heartbreakers to Ohio University and University of Akron. Unfortunately, hazardous weather caused much of Sunday's pool play to be cancelled but the cows were able to combine into a big team and play two exhibition games. Everyone improved drastically and we can't wait for our spring season!
Quidditch:
This weekend the Oberlin Obliviators hosted CWRUcio (Case Western) at home! Although we lost our games against Case, we played hard and learned from their strategies. For our third game, we mixed teams with members from both Case and Oberlin. We also had a huge crowd of parents, which made our games extra exciting! Some parents volunteered to be goal refs and they really got into the game. We look forward to playing Case again in the future!
