Club Sports Report:10/10/17
BJJ:
This week was pretty low-key for BJJ. At our Saturday practice, we ran a series of drills, then did a chain-conditioning sequence where each person took turns choosing an exercise, and either did floor work or individual practice afterwards. At today's practice, we reviewed everything we had previously done, and then worked through the triangle choke from guard and its counter-move, as well as a side control arm triangle choke. Afterwards, we went over rolling etiquette and some of the members who had not previously rolled got a chance to try during open mat time.
Tumbling:
We continue to have new people show up to our collaborative sessions, some find us on their own while others are brought by friends. Most notably this week, we took advantage of the gorgeous weather yesterday and held an outdoor session collectively with OCircus in front of Hales. We dragged some of the mats onto the grass and had people practicing everything from juggling to devil sticks to acro to backflips to handstands and unicycle. It was a fantastic environment of collaboration and fun. With music in the background, breeze in the air and sun in the sky, we cheered and encouraged each other and just all in all had a great time.
Quidditch: This Saturday the Oberlin Obliviators hosted the Ashland Ashwinders and played three games. Although Ashland was unable to bring all of their players, we were able to mix Oberlin and Ashland to form fair teams, allowing each team to practice working with different people. We also worked on our reffing skills, as Oberlin provided refs for all of the games. We had a great time playing with Ashland and we look forward to competing against them again in the future!
Equestrian and Dressage:
Equestrian: The Oberlin Equestrian team stuck it out through a very rough first show of the season. The team was excited to have riders in all nine divisions on Saturday and on Sunday the team came in 4th place overall. The team welcomed many first time showers including Mira Conyers '20, Emma Stillman '21, Lilli Rochette-Monnoury '20, and Chelsea Munster '21. Special congratulations goes out to Andy Larson '19 for her 1st and 2nd place rides!
Dressage: The Oberlin Dressage team is waiting on edge for the showing season to start. Captain Tess Jewell is recovering from an injury and is very excited to start riding again soon. The first show is the weekend of October 28th and 29th. Until then, they will keep practicing hard!
