Team Updates:
Bowling:
The bowling team competed in Dayton at the conference finals. Both Men's and Women's teams competed and had a great weekend
BJJ: This week BJJ spent a lot of time working through solutions to individual scenarios or challenges we've encountered during recent rolling matches. We also worked on different types of sweeps from a clinch position.
Equestrian:
This past weekend, the Equestrian Team participated in their last western show of the year at the University of Findley. The show was very successful with Lauren Fries '19 coming in 2nd after just pointing up into a highly advanced level and the team captain, Emma Schechter coming in 3rd in the reining class. The team recognized its graduating seniors Captain Emma Schechter and Cara Potter. Emma Schechter is the heart and soul of the Equestrian
Fencing:
Last week the Oberlin Fencing Team competed at OSU for the Midwest fencing Conference. Our men's epee team beat Xavier 5-4 and Women's epee team beat Oakland 9-0. Then both teams had to face OSU a D1 varsity team and lost. This is an especially difficult tournament for us because at least half of our team started fencing at Oberlin while most other schools fencers have been fencing for over 5 years. They are also either varsity or much larger teams, but I think we performed very well and hopefully we'll do better next year.
Quidditch:
Due to inclement weather, the Oberlin Obliviators had to cancel their scrimmage against Ashland University this past weekend. They are practicing hard and looking forward to their upcoming tournaments!
Tumbling:
This past weekend has been incredible for OC Tumbling. We hosted Professional Martial Arts Tricker
Brendan Morrison to teach Tricking workshops all weekend long! Many synch tricks were thrown, level ups were made - but most importantly, an entirely new group of Obies were exposed to the wonderfully fun and supportive world of Tricking. Keep an eye out for Brendan's Oberlin Tricking sampler!
Women's Ultimate:
The Preying Manti spent the past week running intense, focused practices and reviewing the fundamentals of ultimate in preparation for their last official tournament of the semester. The tournament was organized by Case Western and played just an hour from Oberlin's campus. The first day of the tourney was challenging for the Manti, who tried out many new skill sets and strategies. They put up a good fight and had many close games, but didn't come out with any wins. In the second day, the Manti won both of their games with a combination of tools learned the first day, good communication, and cohesive teamwork. The team looks forward to reviewing the past season and making plans to build up to an even stronger season this Spring.
