Gambier, Ohio – The short-handed Oberlin College women's tennis team suffered a 6-3 defeat at the hands of Kenyon College on Thursday night.

“I thought we were off of our games tonight,” Head Coach Constantine Ananiadis said. “I was very disappointed with the way we lost tonight as I thought we let our foot off the pedal somewhat. We are going to need to handle adverse situations much stronger as we head into the end of the season, and I think we will do that.”

With Brenna Sheldon out of the lineup, the Yeowomen were forced to shuffle their usual doubles pairings while also adjusting the singles flights.

Oberlin's lone doubles win came at No. 2 where senior Preeya Shah teamed up with rookie Erin Johnson to defeat Madison Hoffman and Amanda Polster 8-4.

Oberlin's top pairing of Farah Leclercq and Grace Porter that is ranked fourth in the region fell to the unranked duo of Amy Schlessman and Taylor Diffley by a 9-7 count.

At No. 1 singles, Leclercq would get her revenge by beating Schlessman 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Leclercq entered the match at No. 9 in the region, while Schlessman sits at No. 12 – the same regional ranking as the team itself.

Johnson provided the only other Yeowomen victory by earning a 6-4, 6-2 win over Lydia Walker in the No. 4 position.

With the loss Oberlin fell to 15-6 overall and 1-1 in the NCAC East, while Kenyon improved to 11-4 and 2-0 in conference play.

The Yeowomen return to action on Saturday when they host Allegheny College at 1 p.m. It will be Senior Day for the team.
