Gambier, Ohio – The much-improved Oberlin College men's tennis team faced its toughest test of the season Monday evening as the home Lords of Kenyon College earned a 9-0 win over the Yeomen.

Kenyon, who entered the match No. 2 in the nation and No. 1 region, showed why they are so highly touted with their play, but the Yeomen were able to give the national powerhouse a quality fight.

At No. 3 singles, senior Ben Turchin gave Tim Rosensteel all he could handle – forcing a third-set tiebreak. Turchin dropped the first set 6-4, but regrouped to win the second 6-2. In the third, the two foes played a super-breaker where Rosensteel was able to pull out a 12-10 win.

Sophomore Soren Zeliger also challenged Tristan Kaye in the number four flight. Zeliger dropped the first 6-2, but won the second by a 6-3 count. In the super-breaker the two went toe-to-toe, but Kaye eventually earned an 11-9 victory.

At No. 1 Callan Louis squared off against the region's No. 2 ranked player in Paul Burgin, and the Oberlin newcomer held his own against the Lords' ace in a 6-1, 6-4 setback.

Senior Charlie Marks went up against the region's 12th ranked player in Wade Heerbooth at number No. 2, falling in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1.

Marks and Turchin nearly came away with a win in the top doubles flight, but the Yeomen pair fell slightly short to Rosensteel and Burgin in an 8-6 loss.

Oberlin will conclude the regular season on Saturday when it host Allegheny College at 1 p.m.
