James and McDonald Named to CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District Team

Oberlin, Ohio – Senior Jason James and sophomore Mike McDonald were named to the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District Team, the organization announced on Friday afternoon.

This is second straight year James has earned the honor, while McDonald finds himself on the list in his first year of eligibility. The award is voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

James, who was team captain for the Yeomen this season, was one of the team's top performers on the mound. He made 10 starts and allowed just 19 earned runs over 52.1 innings of work. His ERA of 3.27 was second amongst the starting staff as was his 33 punchouts. The Lakewood, Colorado, native really raised his level of play in conference as he posted a 2-1 record and 1.85 ERA against NCAC foes. Following graduation, James will be attending the University of Washington to purse a Ph.D in Soil Ecology. He will be graduating at the end of the month with a cumulative GPA of 3.94.

McDonald, a native of Weston, Connecticut, was a dual threat for the Yeomen as he played mostly at second base while also serving as he team's top reliever. In 37 games, he batted .306 and finished second on the team with 26 RBI's. On the bump, the side-arm specialist led Oberlin with 17 appearances. In 30.2 innings he struck out 21 hitters. He tied James with three wins to go along with one save. McDonald is currently carrying a 3.92 GPA while majoring in biology.

The Yeomen will surely miss James' leadership and pitching ability next spring, but are surely grateful to have McDonald around for two more years.
