Oberlin, Ohio – Recent Oberlin College graduate
Jason James was named as a CoSIDA/Capital One Third-Team Academic All-American, the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Wednesday.
James, who departed Oberlin this past weekend with a 3.94 GPA while double majoring in environmental studies and creative writing, was a key cog on the mound for the Yeomen over the last four years.
A native of Lakewood, Colorado, James served as team captain this past season and finished the year with a 3.27 ERA, earning three wins in 10 appearances. In NCAC play he was particularly strong as he posted a 2-1 record and just a 1.85 ERA.
“Jason is a guy that embodies everything we want our student-athletes to be,” Head Coach
Adrian Abrahamowicz said. “We certainly appreciate all he has done for the program over the last four years and we will surely miss him on the mound next season.”
A two-time CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District selection, James was also tabbed as an All-NCAC Honorable-Mention honoree this spring. He and Kenyon College pitcher Tyler Dierke were the only two members from the North Coast Athletic Conference to receive this award from CoSIDA.
In the fall he will begin pursing a Ph.D in Soil Ecology at the University of Washington on a full scholarship.
