Ariel Lewis and
Sam Towne were selected as CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District selections, the organization announced on Friday evening.
All three of the athletes were tabbed as First-Team At-Large honorees and are now eligible to earn Academic All-America honors. To be eligible for the award, one must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 and be either a starter or key reserve on their respective team.
Haddad, a native of Beirut, Lebanon, is graduating next week with a 3.9 GPA in biology. Last week he was bestowed as one of the athletics department's Butler Award winners. In the pool he set the school record in the 100-yard breast (57.59) and is member of the record-setting 200-yard medley relay team (1:36.31).
Lewis, who is the most decorated tennis player in school history, will be participating in the NCAA Individual Championship Tournament for the third time in her career this coming week. A two-time NCAC Player of the Year, Lewis was also named as the NCAC/Stern Award winner as well as the Female Athlete of the Year. The all-time leader in career wins; Lewis is in search of her second straight ITA All-America honor. Following graduation, she will begin pursing a master's degree in creative writing at Washington University (St. Louis).
Towne, who was a four-year starter on the Yeomen tennis team, was the department's Goldring Award winner for having the highest GPA of any male athlete. He departs Oberlin with a perfect 4.0 GPA while majoring in biochemistry with a minor in mathematics. A two-time ITA Scholar All-American and two-time team captain, Towne racked up a combined 25 wins on the court this season.
