Series Info …
Oberlin trails the all-time series against the Scots 22-62-2 … Saturday marks the 87th meeting between the two schools, dating all the way back to 1903 … Oberlin's last victory against the Scots came in 2003 when the Yeomen outlasted Wooster 14-7 … Last season, senior running back R.V. Carroll entered the game 32 yards shy of Ron Stevenson (1979-82/3,462 yards) as the all-time rushing leader, Carroll became the school's all-time leading rusher gaining 37 yards on 17 carries to lift his career total to 3,468 yards … Wooster jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the second quarter on a pair of TD runs by running back Dustin Sheppard … It appeared that the Yeomen would cut into the lead just before the half but a 12-play drive was short circuited by a Greg Mangan interception … Wooster added two more scores in the second half to put the game out of reach of the Yeomen … Oberlin's lone touchdown came on an 11-yard TD pass from Greg Mangan to receiver Mike Loll, who finished with six catches for 72 yards … Wideout Ryan Harvey also turned in a solid performance catching seven balls for 97 yards … Defensively, the Yeomen were led by Tyler Lewis and Ron Rupard, who had 14 and 10 tackles, respectively.

Scouting the Scots …
The Scots ride a two game losing streak into Saturday and are coming off an emotional loss to Allegheny College, a game in which the Scots led 21-7 at halftime only to see their lead slip away, ultimately dropping the contest 24-21 … The Scots scored all of its touchdowns in the contest in the second quarter only to see each drive from there on stall giving Allegheny all of the time it needed to steal the lead and the victory away from the Scots … Wooster is led offensively by senior quarterback Austin Holter … A dual threat quarterback, Holter currently leads the team in both passing (1,836 yards, 19 TDs) and rushing (647 yards, 5 TDs, 80.9 YPG) … Sophomore running back is Holter's favorite target out of the backfield, catching a team leading 26 balls for 300 yards and one touchdown … Senior wideout Luke McCann looks to be Holter's big play target on the outside hauling in 21 catches for 267 yards (12.7 YPC) and 5 TDs … Defensively, the Scots are led by senior linebacker Matt DeGrand who leads the team with 93 total tackles, is tied for the team lead with two interceptions and two forced fumbles, while also accounting for 4.5 tackles for a loss and 1.5 sacks … Senior Chris Wade and Junior Chris Aukerman look to be the Scots threats off the edge with four sacks a piece and 7.5 and 8.5 tackles for a loss, respectively … Senior kick returner Bryan Albani has the ability to return the kickoff to the house every time he touches the ball, having done so twice already this season.

Preventing the Big Play …
Last week against Allegheny, the Scots scored all three touchdowns with plays that covered 50-plus yards … Plays covering 51, 63, and 55 yards each accounted for the three Scot scores … The Yeomen defense did a good job last week against the high-powered offense of Wabash preventing the big play, especially in the first half … The Yeomen secondary of Drew Mixter, Solomon Turner, Tyler Lewis, Shawn Chrapczynski, and Eric Enrico, will have to have yet another strong showing to give the Yeomen a chance.

Finishing the Game …
Last week against Wabash, the Yeomen played arguably their best half of football holding the high-powered Little Giant offense to seven first half points … The Yeomen were within 7-3 at halftime on the strength of a season-long 37-yard field goal by junior place-kicker Zach Richard … The Yeomen arguably could have been in the lead going into halftime had quarterback David Kalgren not been stripped at the Wabash 6-yard line early in the second quarter, for the Yeomen's first of five turnovers on the day … If the Yeomen play 60 minutes of sound, fundamental football, they should once again find themselves within striking distance late in the game.

Another High-Powered Offense …
The Yeomen defense will once again be put to the test as they face the third leading offense in the NCAC … Wooster is currently ranked behind national powerhouses Wabash and Wittenberg, respectively, in scoring offense averaging 31.9 points per game this season … However, the Wooster defense should not pose as big of test as the Wabash defense did a week ago … While the Yeomen proved they could move the ball against statistically the second best offense in the conference, they should once again, barring turnovers and penalties be able to move the ball, as the Scots are giving up an average of 25.8 points per game.

Who's Number One
The Yeomen defense may have their hands full with a steady group of Wooster receivers on Saturday … This season 12 different Scots have caught passes and of those twelve, five of them have 20 or more catches this season … Seven different players have also caught a touchdown pass this season … Wooster's spread attack, along with Holter's dual threat ability could provide for many big plays if the Yeomen defense is not ready to play

The Future is Now …
Oberlin's young but talented receiving corps of junior Ryan Harvey, sophomores #C.J. Holman and Cory Kidd#, and freshmen #Robin Witjes and Adam Niec# showed a lot of promise last week against Wabash … Each of them was targeted multiple times by Kalgren who also is coming into his own, playing better each week … Kalgren's elusiveness allowed the young group of receivers to find holes in broken plays to pick up large chunks of yardage each time the ball went up … Niec led all receivers with 78 yards and the lone score last week, when Witjes found him in the back of the end zone on a trick play … These receivers, along with Kalgren, look to be the future of Yeomen football, and based on their progression, the future looks to be bright for these young stars.
