Suggs and Schubert Added to Football Staff

Lee Suggs and Chris Schubert join the Yeomen football staff.
July 17 – Oberlin College head football coach Jeff Ramsey announced the addition of former Cleveland Brown Lee Suggs and former Yeoman great Chris Schubert to his coaching staff.

Suggs, a fourth-round pick of the Browns in 2003, will serve as running backs coach and inherits the reigning NCAC Offensive Player of the Year #R.V. Carroll#.

The 2000 Big East Offensive Player of the Year, Suggs is one of the most decorated players in Virginia Tech history. He still holds school records for the most rushing touchdowns in a season (27) and career (53).

A native of Roanoke, Virginia, Suggs set an NCAA record with at least one touchdown in 27 straight games. He served as a team captain for the Hokies in 2002 and was a first-team Big East selection in 2000 and 2002.

Schubert, a 2008 graduate of Oberlin, is the school's all-time leading receiver with 2,536 yards and will serve as tight ends coach.

Schubert, who was a three-time All-NCAC first-team selection, totaled 2,041 all-purpose yards as a receiver and return specialist last season. He hauled in 60 catches for 723 yards to go along with six touchdowns.

Schubert also holds the school record for receiving touchdowns (23), kickoff return yards in career (2,867), kickoff return yards in a season (1,056), punt returns yards in a career (343) and punt return yards in a season (180).

In 2008, Schubert was honored with Oberlin's Lysle K. Butler Award for his outstanding success on the field, in the classroom and in the community. In May, Schubert was also invited to take part in Cleveland Browns minicamp.

Schubert joins his father Woody as part of Ramsey's staff. Woody is entering his fourth season as Oberlin's wide receivers coach.
